With Us And Against Us: How America's Partners Help and Hinder the War on Terror
Columbia University Press will publish my forthcoming book, titled With Us and Against Us, in spring 2018. In the book I argue that it is incorrect to ask whether partner nations help or hinder U.S. counterterrorism efforts. The reality is often both. Thus, a core challenge is to determine what the United States can reasonably expect from its counterterrorism partners. I resolve this puzzle by identifying different elements of counterterrorism and different types of partners in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. I then assess the conditions under which partners helped or hindered the United States. As the book’s release date gets closer, I will update this page with more information. For now, the table of contents is below.
